Public Meeting Concerning SOAP and SODA

Recently, many people have emailed City Council concerning the council’s actions regarding SOAP and SODA, a program that would prohibit those convicted of crimes related to prostitution or drugs in the Northeast from being in the area.  In May the council passed a resolution supporting the Northeast Neighborhoods, the Municipal Court, the City Prosecutor, the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, and the Northeast Chamber of Commerce in their efforts to create the program.
Now’s your chance to publicly voice your opinion on the issue Tuesday at 3pm during a meeting to address crime in the Northeast.  The meeting will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 318 Benton Blvd.

City Council Legislative Session July 9

The Bannister Road Kansas City Plant was recently selected as a possible storage site for elemental mercury generated within the US.  This came as a great surprise to the City Council who only learned about this news recently through the press.

In a resolution passed Thursday, the council voiced their opposition to the use of the plant for the storage of such harmful materials. Council contends there might be more appropriate locations not situated smack dab in the middle of urban areas.  The U.S. Department of Energy proposed several locations for the facility including some places that genuinely want the facility.

Great Web Resources

With summer comes BBQ, lazy afternoons, and best of all – road construction! I was doing a little exploring on the MODOT website and found some really great resources.    construction map

You can see a larger version and a key to this map, detailing construction projects and their purpose.  There is also a  map showing where to expect delays, where work zones are, and other info. You can read about the role of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act on roads in your county.

The MODOT site for Kansas City is a really helpful resource if you are curious about road construction in your area!
